Youth Against Aids Club

The Youth Against Aids (YAA) of Emmanuel College is a club is a club that focuses on long time goals that relate to the involvement of young people in work with their peers educating them about HIV\AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STI’s) and other issues which relate to one’s health. The Youth Against Aids members EHS thought of starting such a club because youth voices and peer to peer education are important weapons in the fight against AIDS pandemic. As our motto states “END AIDS, END INEQUALITIES, END PANDEMIC” we want to make sure that people especially the youth in our country knows about HIV\AIDS and how dangerous it can, we also want to give advice to the youth on how best they can avoid this pandemic. The (YAA) club of Emmanuel College has so far organized educational activities such workshops, discussions and camps

Our club does not only focus on HIV\AIDS but we also do campaigns on drug abuse, our main aim is on the wellbeing of young people at school by hosting functions for example we hosted our first mind blowing Valentines dinner. From the events we plan and host we get money that we use to buy groceries or clothes to donate to young people living with HIV\AIDS, we have so far made a donation at Mashambanzou Centre for the young people living with this pandemic.

Our club is a social club, we work hand in hand with people in the society thus the social world is our laboratory, some of the days we go into the social world mostly in places were the youth are for example at Mbare in Harare to ask them questions pertaining this pandemic, we ask the youth why HIV\AIDS is being contracted mostly by the youth young people, by giving us the reasons we think of the solutions on how best they can avoid it. By doing this the members of the cub learn how to critically think and be able to give solutions to a problem which can benefit them in the future.
